What the generator changes
- Spaces and tabs at the end of each line are removed. A space left before a line break is the usual reason the break disappears.
- Every blank line gets a spacer, so two blank lines stay two blank lines instead of collapsing.
- Spaces at the start of a line become spacers when “Keep spaces” is on, so indented lines keep their indent. A tab counts as two spaces.
- Blank lines before the first line and after the last are dropped, because Instagram trims them anyway.
- Nothing else changes: words, emoji, hashtags and line order stay exactly as you wrote them.
Questions about Instagram captions
What is the spacer character?
U+2800, the blank Braille pattern. It shows as empty space, and unlike an ordinary space Instagram does not strip it. It counts as one character toward the 2,200 limit. Some screen readers announce it as “blank” or “Braille pattern blank”, so if your audience relies on screen readers, choose the full-stop option instead.
Why does Instagram remove my line breaks?
Instagram does not document it, and the behaviour has changed between app versions. Commonly reported causes are a run of blank lines collapsing, a space at the end of a line swallowing the break after it, and spaces at the start of a line being dropped. The generator removes those causes rather than relying on the app to keep them.
How are characters counted?
As a JavaScript string length, the same count QueueBloom's composer uses for Instagram. Most emoji count as 2 that way, so the figure errs on the safe side of Instagram's limit. Spacers count as 1 each.
Does QueueBloom post the caption for me?
No. “Add to my queue” puts the caption in your QueueBloom workspace, where you can schedule it. When it is due, QueueBloom emails you the caption and a link to Instagram so you can post it yourself.
